Buttercream Icing

This post is for my mother. (So she doesn't have to write all of this down over the phone)

Buttercream Icing

1/2 cup solid vegetable shortening
1/2 cup butter
1 teaspoon vanilla extract (clear, if you have it)
4 cups sifted confectioner's sugar (Sift before measuring)
2 tablespoons milk (maybe a tad more if you think it needs it)

Cream butter and shortening with mixer. Add vanilla extract.

Gradually add sugar, 1 cup at a time, beating well on medium speed. Scrape sides and bottom of bowl often. When all sugar has been mixed in, icing will appear dry.

Add milk and beat at medium speed until light and fluffy.

Use immediately, or keep icing covered with a damp cloth until ready to use.

Yum! Yum! I wish I were there to lick the bowl!!!
